Huixingshao Fm
Type Locality and Naming
It was proposed by Ge Zhizhou et al in early 1970s (Nanjing Institute of Geology and Paleontology, Chinese Academy of Sciences; 1974). The type section is at the roadside from Rongxi to Xiushan, about 6 km southeast of Rongxi, Xiushan County in southeast Chongqing Shi.
Synonym: (回星哨组)
Lithology and Thickness
The formation at the Rongxi section in Xiushan County, 84.5 m in thickness, consists of interbeds of purplish red pelitic ferruginous quartzose siltstone with grayish green quartzose siltstone.
Relationships and Distribution
Lower contact
The appearance of purplish red mudstone and siltstone at the base of the Huixingshao Fm in a conformably contact on the underlying Xiushan Fm
Upper contact
The top is disconformably overlain by the Xiaoxi Fm.
Regional extent
The Huixinshao Fm is well developed in Baojing, Dayong and Sangzhi Counties, stretching southwestwards and northeastwards gradually gets thinner and thinner; it is nearly 250 m thick at Kapeng in Huayuan County, 86 m thick at Beidong in Longshan County and only 1 m thick at Hongjiayu of Sangzhi County (Huang Weipei, 1986).

Depositional setting
The formation is exposed in the zone of subsiding depression northwest of the Jiangnan Oldland roughly in a northeast-southwest narrowly elongate belt starting from Dayong and Sangzhi of northwest Hunan Province in northeast and ending at Shiqian County, northeast Guizhou Province in southwest.
